Making a Place for Children

Child Care Facility Planning Manual for Washington State

Environmental Works wrote, illustrated and provided graphic design for a manual for architects, developers, and childcare business owners on best practices for designing and building child care facilities in Washington state. The manual was written to fill a great need for a resource to assist child care business owners, architects, developers, contractors and local government staff in the planning, development and construction of child care facilities in Washington.

The manual addresses pre-development activities, the development process, regulatory requirements, interior and exterior spaces, and special considerations, in addition to providing checklists, resources and guidance in the formation of a vision for providing quality care for children from infancy through school-age.
