Since 2007, Environmental Works has been honored to partner with Foundation For the Challenged in designing community-based living options for people with developmental disabilities (many of whom also have physical disabilities). EW has collaborated on the design of more than 30 houses for FFC, in locations throughout western Washington including Centralia, Olympia, Puyallup, Longview, Kirkland, Shoreline, Marysville, and Everett.
FFC homes usually accommodate 3-4 residents in a single-family home. Most are adaptive remodels of existing single-family residences, featuring voluntary accessibility, useful life, and green building improvements. EW has also designed a new four-bedroom house and two duplexes for FFC. EW works closely with FFC and residents’ care providers to ensure each home best suits the needs of its future residents.
