This project expanded an existing child care program serving 40 children both quantitatively – to serve 92 children – and qualitatively – to create a model early child care program and demonstration site of state-of-the-art early childhood care and education for low-income families in the Central District. The new child care center incorporates a large Commons Area, central to all classrooms. It is used for a variety of children’s activities, from gross motor to cooking projects, as well as family support activities, parenting classes and gatherings. Separate studio spaces are also exclusively dedicated for children’s ongoing projects.
