This permanent family and farmworker housing project creates a walkable, community-enhancing development in Sunnyside. The 11 buildings are designed to have a residential character, relating to the surrounding context and reinforcing the street edges. Homes are arranged around several common outdoor areas, providing an opportunity for smaller communities of eight to sixteen families each.
The site and buildings work together to create rich outdoor spaces including courtyards, play spaces, and garden areas as well as semi-private patios at each home. All forty families have easy access to the shared open spaces and can move safely between them. The location and orientation of the buildings also allow for parking convenient to each home.
