Hillside Community Permaculture Garden and Orchard

Beacon food forest | Seattle, WA

The Beacon Food Forest in Jefferson Park formed in 2009 and was built and is maintained by hundreds of volunteers. Our team participated in their phase II expansion effort and helped them to double the size of the garden, adding more P-Patch plots, food forest permaculture areas, a new storage shed, irrigation, and improved accessibility. The “heavy lifting” portion of the construction was done by the Conservation Corps and was supplemented with multiple weekend work parties. This unique community garden is one of the few that encourages visitors to glean edibles while they stroll through the garden.
