Martin Luther King Jr. Day Home Center
child care facilities
This project more than doubled the capacity of an existing child care program so that it could serve 92 children, while also making possible program improvements that led to creation of a model state-of-the-art early child care and education program for low-income families in the Central District. The new child care center incorporates a large Commons Area central to all classrooms that is used for a variety of children’s activities, from gross motor to cooking projects, as well as family support activities, parenting classes, and gatherings. Separate studio spaces are exclusively dedicated to children’s ongoing projects.
