Community Designed Playground Improvements

Broadview COmmunity Playground Improvement | Seattle, WA

In 2013, the Broadview-Thomson PTA applied for funding from the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Small and Simple Grant Program to renovate the school playground. The steering committee team envisioned the outdoor space with warmer, softer surfaces, strong connections to adjacent Bitter Lake, and enrichment opportunities for students centered around the environment. The PTA hired our team for community outreach and development of this plan. The final design featured a new hillside slide, stairs, and pathways. It included several nodes that incorporated natural play elements, several new basketball courts, and improved tetherball stations. These elements brought life back to the heart of an underserved community’s elementary school playground.
