Carkeek Park Playground

A Unique Regional Park and Playscape | Seattle, WA

The Carkeek Park Playground sits at the base of a wooded hillside in a large regional park, home of Piper’s Creek. The new playground creatively addresses play and learning opportunities with many natural elements, including an adventure trail, hollow logs, low round rocks, shallow grottos, tide pools, sand digging, and discovery areas. Elements like the 19’ long salmon slide and the Salish shelter connect park users to the Northwest history of this site. Volunteer work parties and art workshops contributed to making this a true community park.

COMMUNITY DESIGN

We worked with the Community Design Team at neighborhood workshops where nearly 100 people participated in “Design Games” to develop design options that responded to the natural context and improved the existing play area.
