A Play Area Supporting Immigrant and Refugee Early Learning Culture

Voices of Tomorrow | Seattle, WA

Voices of Tomorrow is a non-profit organization that provides social services to immigrants and refugees from East African Communities, the most vulnerable in Washington State. Environmental Works was hired to create new opportunities for outdoor play and to support early childhood learning. The play area design reflects Voices of Tomorrow’s mission and values of supporting child identity through culturally responsive means. The constructed playground includes custom log structures and striped hardscape play areas, all surrounded by plantings in raised planters. The final product was supported by a volunteer work party that included both Voices of Tomorrow staff and Environmental Works employees.
